Artistic Tips to Navigate A Surreal Time

Uncharted territory. It is a time of forced internal migration. I know for some, things are tragic and terrifying and for others it is a time of great discovery. It can be both.
May I suggest a few creative ways to find the magic and the learning inside of it all.
If you have the luxury, practice the mindfulness of Less Lamenting and More Inventing. This may help reduce inflammation and support your immune system.
Tip #1 - Experiment with an Alice in Wonderland state of mind. Imagination is REAL. The world and the environment are topsy turvy. Day is night and Night is Day and so I thought, why not step into this state of mind with humor. I imagine that I love looking at budgets and writing business plans...so that is what I've been doing. As an artist and creative, this is so outside my definition of myself that I normally feel victimized by the business end of what artists must embrace. Daily, I am pretending that I LOVE business planning and budgets. Make believe. Remember that? What the heck.

Tip #2 - Use your imagination to play with your environment. Tired of those walls during Shelter in Place? Time to reimagine your space from a child's perspective. Down low.
Make pretend your home is a surreal landscape, a place of your own, if you will. . You are an intrepid adventurer.
What will you wear, Food to pack?
Have a picnic there with your inner child (you before colonization or conditioning) or explore a cave called the bookcase or junk drawer.
What will you find there? Become curious. What kind of adventures will you go on? What music or sounds will float in the air? Name the land masses you will explore. What about a blanket fort?
