An installation concept started at Dia de los Muertos at SomArts Cultural Center with Rio and Rene Yanez curators.
Cynthia's installation was dedicated to her Auntie Rosie. She passed in September 2008 - Meta IV a surreal shoppe carries lines such as the Atonement Dress, jewelry by Biological Clock and Family Drama Honey. Each item a meditation of the myths, social expectations and
self-imposed rules we buy into unconciously at an early age. There is also a growing number of Rx prescriptons, suggestions for better mental health. A way out, so to speak.
This is a concept that needs to grow in a larger space, inviting public participation, creating new objects for the Meta IV shoppe.

An ambitious undertaking by AAWAA. Asian American Women Artists Association. This project began with a 10 artists in residence at the de Young
AAWAA believes if we pose the question, "If you had a place of your own, what would it be?" and provide the creative means by which the answers can be explored, it would lead to profound answers. Could you discover a place, in which the limitations are bound by the imagination and nothing more?The process of answering the question in a two or three-dimensional form, on paper or with digital media is thought-provoking. It has the potential to begin deep internal and external dialog amongst our artists and the community. The question provides inspiration for powerful, thought-provoking work, resulting in a ongoing series of projects that will evolve and educate, not only our AAWAA artists but also visitors who participate during workshops, in the classroom and online.

Discards & Variances - Cynthia Tom, mixed media, pillows and paintings in collaboration with Jennifer Ewing, mixed media spirit boats, Cris Matos paintings.
Using little pillows and personal paintings Cynthia Tom explores the stories of individuals discarded by families and society. The concept of “journey” implied by Jennifer Ewing’s spirit boats, provide a jump off point for hope and imagination. ______________________________________________________________
